We sat down with Jo to talk about her connection to fashion and beauty, city influences on her style, and what makes her feel confident.
"Completely. I grew up between Milan, London and spent most of my holidays in France, so I feel like I took something from each place. Milan taught me that getting dressed is intentional, you always look like you’re on your way somewhere important, but always with a little edge. Paris showed me that the more comfortable you feel, the better you look. Then London taught me there are no rules. You can look like a punk rock singer one day and completely reinvent yourself the next. I think that’s why my style is always evolving."
"Definitely. For me it actually starts before either of those. I always decide the vibe first. Am I feeling like a panther? Powerful? The girl next door? A goddess? Once I know the energy I want to have, the makeup comes naturally and then I build the outfit around it. Makeup has never really been about covering anything for me; it’s my creative outlet. I can’t draw to save my life, but give me a graphic liner and I’ll happily spend an hour experimenting. Sometimes I’ll put music on, try the craziest makeup look, dance around my room and then wash it all off. Half the fun is just creating the character."
"Confidence has never really come from clothes or makeup for me, they just amplify it. My favourite feeling is being on holiday with my friends, wearing a great outfit, fun makeup, my favourite perfume, and heading out for dinner. That’s when I feel most like myself. If people compliment my style, I hope they’re noticing the energy I bring through the clothes I’m wearing."
